Status: Breeding resident.

Distinguishing features: The male is coppery brown above with a copper hindwing margin. The female hindwing above is similar, however, the forewing is copper with black spots and a brown margin. Below the forewings of both sexes are orange with a light margin and the hindwings are white with an orange margin.

Distribution and habitat: It is abundant statewide in open, moist meadows and wetlands.

Natural History: Larvae consume a number of dock (Rumex) species. They may be easily found by looking on the underside of the largest leaves of the host plant. As with many members of the genus, the Bronze Copper displays marked sexual dimorphism.
